January Birth Flower: What is the Birth Flower for January?

Welcome to our series on birth month flowers.

January, what a month! What's not to love about this time of the year? When we think of Jan, we think of all things sunny and fun! We think about driving down the coast with our pals, going on little vacays, swimming in the ocean at sunset and soaking up the last few hours of sunshine with a cocktail or two in hand. This is definitely a heavenly time and it ties in perfectly with one of our fav flowers, 'Carnation'. Carnation is the birth flower of January! So, for all you Jan babies, we introduce to you your gorgeous birth flower!

Carnation flowers originated in Eurasia and have been cultivated for 2,000 years, which makes them up there with some of the oldest cultivated flowers. These delights are known as ‘heavenly flowers’ which makes sense when you look at their gentle yet intricate beauty. We could personally stare at the intricacies of a carnation forever!

One of our favourite facts about a Carnation flower is they are sweetly scented and they come in a wide variety of colours which explains the popularity of this flower when we see it used so often in floral arrangements. Particularly in our own floral arrangements at Fig & Bloom!! What we love is how the colours all symbolise unique meanings; red carnation symbolizes love, pride and admiration; a pink carnation symbolizes the love of a woman or a mother (TIP: keep pink in mind if you need mother’s day or birthday ideas), and white symbolises innocence and pure love! How sweet, just like all of you born in January.

We hope you feel in tune with your birth flower; Carnation! The flower of many talents and meanings, these are special little meanings that you can keep for yourself, and personally relate to if you are born in the month of Jan! The next time you go into a florist, or you order a bunch of flowers with Carnations in it, we hope you feel enlightened by the knowledge you now hold forever about your birth flower. Have the best birthday month ever!!! And of course, for those of you born in a different birth flower we hope you loved learning about Carnations, these blooms are always a heavenly addition to any flower bouquet or are a powerful statement on its own.
